History of Mililani

Mililani’s history dates back to the mid-20th century when its land was still predominantly agricultural. Later that decade, Castle & Cooke, a development company, acquired it for their vision of creating a planned community to accommodate Oahu’s expanding population. Mililani began construction in 1968 with the initial goal of providing affordable housing for military personnel stationed nearby at Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield. The goal was also to establish a self-contained community offering various amenities and services at a convenient distance. Mililani welcomed its inaugural residents in 1969, and its population quickly flourished.
